Heartland's 5th grade worked on a community service project this spring for Warm-Up America. This organization takes donations of 7"X9" knitted squares, stitches them into afghans and donates to needy families. The challenge was to teach all 75 5th graders to knit!!! Well Rhonda being the obsessive knitter could not pass up this challenge. With the help of many parent volunteers the 5th graders learned to knit one Friday afternoon and by the next Friday they had knitted enough squares to make one afghan. It takes 49 for one afghan!!! By the next Friday they had over 100 squares. Before the big knit-out at Heartland, we had the Odyssey girls over to learn to knit and attended a Girl Scout meeting to teach them. See the pic of one of the completed afghans.
